Aamir Sohail a reliable opener and partner of Saeed Anwar in opening

 

Aamir Sohail was a reliable opener and Saeed Anwar's opening partner in the 1990's. Saeed Anwar- Aamir Sohail opening partnership is considered the best opening pair in the history of Pakistan. Saeed Anwar was the aggressor and a bit more talented than Aamir Sohail as he could hit boundaries at will but on the other hand Aamir Sohail was a bit more cautious and defensive as compared to Saeed Anwar and would often rotate the strike with Saeed Anwar by taking singles.

In the 1992 World Cup Aamir Sohail played a number of important innings for Pakistan as an opener and hence proved vital in Pakistan's 1992 World Cup win. His innings of 50 plus in the do or die match against Australia proved to be a match winning innings which lead Pakistan into the semi finals of the 1992 World Cup. Aamir Sohail - Ramiz Raja opening partnerships were vital for Pakistan in the 1992 World Cup as they set a platform for Pakistan to put up decent totals in the tournament. 

Aamir Sohail was also successful in his brief stay as Pakistani captain as he led Pakistan to Singer Cup success in 1996 in a tournament also featuring Sri Lanka and India. Pakistan also were victorious in the 1998 Sahara Cup in Canada under Aamir Sohail's leadership which they won by a convincing margin of 4-1. Pakistan also won their first ever test match against South Africa in Durban in 1998 under Aamir Sohail's captaincy.

In the end what I would like to say is that had Aamir Sohail not lost his stroke playing ability in batting he would not have retired abruptly in the year 2000.

Aaqib Javed a fine seam bowler

 

Aaqib Javed used to be a fine medium pace bowler for Pakistan in the late 1980's until 1998. He had a particular very deceptive slower ball and he deceived many world class batsmen with his change of pace slower ball like getting the all important wicket of New Zealand's pinch hitter Mark Greatbatch with a slower ball which went right though his defences to clean bowled him in the 1992 World Cup Semi Final of 1992 played in Auckland New Zealand.

He alongwith Wasim Akram were the main bowlers of 1992 World Cup in the pace department and was Wasim Akram's opening bowling partner at the other end. He alongwith Wasim Akram and Mushtaq Ahmed played a vital role in Pakistan's 1992 World Cup victory. Waqar Younis was injured and missed the 1992 World Cup and hence Aaqib Javed took the responsibility to support Wasim Akram in the bowling department in the 1992 World Cup.

In the end what I would like to say is that had Pakistan not found Shoaib Akhtar to replace Aaqib Javed in 1998 then Aaqib Javed would have had a lot longer career rather than retiring from international cricket in 1998.

Mike Hesson as coach

 

Mike Hesson as Pakistan's whiteball coach is doing a fine job with the Pakistani cricket team. Pakistan has been doing well under his coaching with series win over Bangladesh 3-0 at home in twenty20 internationals, Series win over South Africa in both the twenty20 international series and ODI series by identical margin of 2-1 and winning the trination series also involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe at home. Besides these victories Pakistan also won the West Indies series 2-1 in West Indies which was a Twenty20 international series, the Pakistan-UAE- Afghanistan trination series in Sharjah was also won by Pakistan under Hesson and they also reached the Final of Asia Cup all this under Hesson's coaching. As a mere aberration Pakistan lost the Bangladesh Series 2-1 in twenty20 internationals and they lost the ODI series against  West Indies 2-1 played in West Indies under Hesson's coaching.

One thing I like about Hesson is that Pakistani batsmen are playing more aggressively, positively and with better strike rates than before. Pakistani batsmen are showing positive intent under Hesson's coaching which is a positive sign for Pakistani cricket. Also Hesson's strategy of bringing more all rounders to the team is a good move by Hesson which is paying dividends and working for the Pakistan cricket team.

In the end what I would like to say is that Hesson is going to improve Pakistan's performance even further and Pakistan are one of the favourites to win the Twenty20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka 2026 In Sha Allah.

Salim Malik an elegant batsman

 

Salim Malik played the 1999 World Cup and then was banned for playing international cricket again.

He was accused of match fixing on Australia's 1994 tour of Pakistan when he allegedly bribed Mark Waugh, Shane Warne and Tim May to throw matches deliberately by under performing.  Under Justice Qayyum's report on match fixing and tainted players Saleem Malik was given life ban from playing international cricket.

Saleem Malik was a stylish and elegant batsman. He was particularly known for accumulating runs by taking a lot of singles, twos and threes and then improvising to hit strokes to all parts of the ground for sixes and fours. He was known to rescue Pakistan from collapses and was a match winner.

In the end what i would like to say is that a promising career of an elegant batsmen such as Salim Malik ended because of match fixing allegations.  

Salman Butt a promising captain

 

 

Salman Butt was proving to be a brilliant captain of the Pakistani team until he was proven to be guilty of spot fixing in Pakistan's tour of England in 2010. He alongwith Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Amir were proven to be guilty of spot fixing just after he captained Pakistan to it's first victory in tests in 15 years against Australia at Lords in 2010 and also defeating England in a test match in their ill fated tour of England in 2010. Muhammad Amir was given an early reprieve in the spot fixing case but Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif served full punishment of ban in playing international cricket for 7 years.

Salman Butt as a captain was a master tactician and he proved that in the test win against Australia and he would have proved to be a very successful test captain had he involved himself in spot fixing.

As a player he was a solid opener and particularly scored a lot of centuries and runs against the old enemy India.  His match winning centuries in BCCI platinum Jubilee match in 2004 and in the Final of Kitply Cup in 2008 were innings of note.

In the end what I would like to say is that Salman Butt ruined his career by involving himself in spot fixing.

Pakistan have been fantastic throughout November 2025

 

Pakistan have been fantastic throughout November 2025. They started the year terribly losing in the first round in Champions Trophy 2025 and then had a disastrous white ball tour of New Zealand. All that changed in November 2025.

Pakistan cricket reached great heights at home in November 2025 defeating South Africa in the ODI series as well as Twenty20 international series, Sri lanka 3-0 in ODI series and Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in the tri nation series.

This is a fantastic achievement by Pakistan and they have shown to the world that they are a strong team now especially in whiteball cricket.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan should continue these performances at home to matches played overseas as well.

Trinations Series Final - Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2025

 

Pakistan start as favourites against Sri lanka but not overwhelming favourites for the final. Sri lanka have momentum in their side and they might surprise Pakistan in Saturday's final to lift the trophy. Pakistan have been playing well throughout the tournament and looked like winning the fourth match as well if it wasnt for Chameera's last brilliant over. 

In order to win the Final Pakistan depends a lot on Saim Ayub's quick start and Babar Azam's batting. In bowling they rely on Usman Tariq and Abrar Ahmad. On the otherhand Sri lanka depend on Pathum Nissanka, Mishara and Kusal Perera's batting. In Chameera and Hasaranga they have reliable bowlers.

In the end what I would like to say is that on paper Pakistan look as  favourites to win the Trinations series trophy.

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe Match 1 tri nation series 2025

 

Pakistan defeated Zimbabwe by 5 wickets in the first match of the tri nation series also involving Sri lanka. Zimbabwe at one stage looked good enough to score in the excess of 200 runs when their openers Bennett and Marumani were scoring at a run rate of 10 runs per over. Setting a target of 200 runs would have been a match winning one but instead Zimbabwe collapsed to 147 for 8 in their allocated 20 overs innings.

A lot of credit goes to Fakhar Zaman and Usman Khan partnership and later on Muhammad Nawaz's innings that tilted the match in Pakistan's favour. Muhammad Nawaz all round performance with bat and ball is the reason why we were able to win this match. Zimbabwe with both the bat and ball had Pakistan in trouble and we were lucky to win against them and it was a close call for the Pakistani team.

in the end what i would like to say is that Pakistan and Sri lanka are most likely to play the final of this tri nation series.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka third ODI 2025

 

Pakistan once again out classed Sri Lanka in the third ODI to complete a whitewash of Sri Lanka by margin of 3-0.  Sri Lanka may have been disturbed by terror threats as after the first ODI which was a close one their performance in the next two ODI's declined and deteriorated. Credit must goto Pakistan for putting up clinical performances with both bat and ball and for putting Sri lanka under pressure throughout the series.

Pakistan played better cricket of the two teams competing in this ODI series. Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Muhammad Rizwan and Hussain Talat were excellent with the bat throughout the series. In bowling Haris Rauf was the player of the series and besides Haris Rauf Muhammad Wasim Junior, Abrar Ahmed and Naseem Shah also bowled well.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan at home have so far shown to the world that they are back in form and are a dangerous team.

Pakistan vs Sri lanka 2nd ODI 2025

 

Pakistan scored a convincing win over Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the second ODI and hence they have now won the ODI series against Sri lanka too followed by the South African series win that Pakistan also won 2-1 in ODIs played in Faisalabad. Babar Azam finally brought his century drought to an end and he is in magnificent touch which is a good news and signs for Pakistani cricket.

Pakistan bowled well in the Sri Lankan batting innings as they restricted them to a gettable target of 289 runs. Abrar Ahmed and Haris Rauf again bowled well to take three wickets apiece. Haris Rauf although takes wickets he takes wickets by giving away too many runs for my liking. Haris Rauf needs to be more economical as bowlers such as Salman Mirza can easily replace him

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan should aim to whitewash Sri Lanka 3-0 in this ODI series.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka first ODI 2025

 Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 6 runs in the first ODi 2025. This was a good all round performance by Pakistan as they bowled under tough dew conditions and were lucky to win the match under such conditions. Haris Rauf in particular bowled extremely well taking four wickets for 61 runs. 

I still think under these conditions in the month of November when there is dew I think winning the toss is a big advantage as bowling under these conditions become extremely difficult. Haris Rauf made a great comeback as he was banned for two matches by ICC.  Salman Agha, Hussain Talat and Muhammad Nawaz made great contributions with the bat.

In the end what I would like to say is that Sri Lanka is much tougher opposition than South Africa in Pakistan 's home conditions and will give Pakistan a tough time for the remaining two matches in the ODI series.

Pakistan win the ODI series against South Africa 2-1 2025

 

Pakistan won the ODI series against South Africa 2-1 by beating South Africa by 7 wickets  in the third ODI. It was Pakistan's third consecutive series win against South Africa in ODI's and their first at home. Credit must goto bowlers especially Abrar Ahmad for bowling South Africa for such a low total of 143 runs which was clearly inadequate.

Saim Ayub's batting was particularly very impressive and in the ODI series he came back into form with innings of 39, 53 and 71. Babar Azam also looked good before he was run out for 27 in the third ODI. Also South Africa maybe contemplating ruing their decision to bat first on the difficult third ODI Faisalabad pitch as all teams chasing and batting second won all the three matches.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan did very well in home conditions in this home series against South Africa drawing the test series 1-1, winning the twenty20 international series 2-1 and winning the ODI series 2-1.

Pakistan win the First ODI against South Africa 2025

 

Pakistan won the first ODI against South Africa after a thrilling contest by the slim margin of two wickets. Pakistan made a heavy weather of the chase as they were in the driver's seat and well placed when they needed 20 runs off 20 balls with 6 wickets in hand. They collapsed to needing 10 runs off 7 balls with 3 wickets remaining until Nawaz struck that six off Ferriera's bowling to make the equation easy for Pakistan.

This was a good start to Shaheen Afridi's captaincy as he ensured South Africa didnt get to a match winning total of 300 runs which would have been beyond Pakistan's reach. Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed bowled well to take three wickets apiece and Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Muhammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha made major contributions with the bat.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan cricket team have been in horrible ODI form of late and they will do well if they win the ODI series against South Africa.

Pakistan win the Twenty20 series 2-1 against South Africa 2025

Pakistan won the twenty20 series against South Africa 2-1. South Africa had a second string side with six regular players missing while Pakistan were at full strength. Pakistan got a lot of positives from this series and all sounds well for the Twenty20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka 2026.

Under Salman Ali Agha's captaincy this series win was a significant milestone as this was only the Third series win for Pakistan against South Africa in twenty20 internationals in history. 

 The positives include Babar Azam coming back into form and scoring some runs with a match winning 68 runs in the third and final Twenty20 international. The superb bowling of our pacers is also praiseworthy like Shaheen Afridi, Salman Mirza and Faheem Ashraf in particular bowling.

In the end what I would like to say is that if Babar Azam was selected in Asia Cup then who knows we might have won the Asia Cup against India in the Final. 

First Twenty20 International Pak vs SA 2025

 

The first twenty20 international between Pakistan and South Africa was a one sided affair with South Africa winning by 55 runs. Considering Pakistan was at full strength and South Africa had a second string team missing key six regular players this result came as a surprise.

I think Pakistani selectors made the mistake of not selecting Fakhar Zaman and instead selecting Saim Ayub who is badly not in form in international cricket of late. Fakhar Zaman is also a more effective striker of the ball than Saim Ayub. Also the inform Muhammad Rizwan should have been selected instead of tried and tested Usman Khan as wicket keeper batsman. 

In the end what I would like to say is that if Babar Azam starts scoring runs then Pakistan should beat South Africa in atleast one of the remaining two games.

Pakistan vs South Africa Day 4 Second test 2025

 

South Africa won the Second test against Pakistan by 8 wickets to level and draw the test series 1-1. Pakistan collapsed in their second innings to lose this test match scoring only 138. Pakistan has a lot of positives in this series.

They won the first test and that looked like a great all round performance. They had their moments in the second test but couldnt get the last wicket cheaply allowing the Muthusamy and Rabada partnership to flourish. Noman Ali and Asif Afridi's bowling was superb throughout the series. In batting Shan Masood and Babar Azam impressed me throughout the series.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan did pretty well winning one test match against the World test champions South Africa in their home test series.

Pakistan vs South Africa Day 3 Second Test 2025

 

South Africa are in the driving seat in the second test on Day 3 of this test match. South Africa have a lead of 70 runs in this test match with Pakistan on 94 for 4 at stumps. With just 6 wickets remaining and having a lead of just 23 runs Pakistan are in a terrible position in this test match.

South Africa should win this test match on the fourth day as Pakistan  have little chance of coming back in this test match. If Babar Azam and Salman Agha can stay for a long period of time and score a long partnership and if the tail doesnt collapse like they are doing previously then Pakistan has a glimmer of hope.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan squandered an excellent chance of taking the lead against South Africa in this test match.

Pakistan vs South Africa Day 2 2nd test Rawalpindi 2025

 

Pakistan have bounced back on the second day of the second test between South Africa and Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Pakistan took two quick wickets later in the day to ensure that they are right in the game. Asif Afridi the debutant took those wickets.

If Pakistan are to hold upper hand in this test match they must take early wickets on day 3 of the test match otherwise South Africa will take the lead. Pakistan must ensure they either take the lead or limit South Africa to as low lead as possible.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan should take the lead if they bowl well on Day 3 of the test match.

Pakistan vs South Africa 2nd test Day one 2025

 

Pakistan and South Africa test at Rawalpindi is evenly poised and both the teams share equal honors on first day of the second test between South Africa and Pakistan. I still think Pakistan has an advantage in this test match too as South Africa will be batting last in this test match as well. The batting conditions in the fourth innings will be extremely difficult and Pakistan will do well if they can score 350 plus total in their first innings.

Saud Shakeel and Salman Agha partnership will be the key to Pakistan getting that 350 plus total. Keshav Maharaj is looking dangerous and South Africa were clearly missing him in the first test match. I think this test match will be a lot closer as South Africa has strengthened their bowling attack with the inclusion of Marco Jansen and Maharaj.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistani batsmen should take advantage of the better batting conditions in this test match.

Pakistan's victory over South Africa in first test 2025

 

Pakistan defeated South Africa comfortably in the end by 93 runs in the first test. Pakistan were lucky they won the toss and batted first in this test match as batting became more and more difficult and especially very difficult in the fourth innings of the test match.

South African spinners also did well in this test match just like Pakistani spinners like Noman Ali and Sajid Khan. But no spinner proved to be as dangerous and unplayable as Noman Ali. Noman Ali's dismissal of Dewald Brevis was an absolute classic.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistani curators should prepare a similar pitch like in the Lahore test in the Second test at Rawalpindi as well.

Pakistan vs South Africa Day 3 First test 2025

 

Pakistan has lost their advantage on Day 3 of this test match as they batted poorly to score 167 all out to hand South Africa a target of 277 runs to win. The match is evenly poised as South Africa are 51 for two chasing 277 run target and both teams stand an even chance of fifty -fifty percent to win. If Pakistan are able to get either De  Zorzi or Rickleton out early then they stand a good chance of winning. 

Pakistani pacemen are proving to be absolutely ineffective on this pitch and no one is effective in taking wickets for Pakistan except Noman Ali. Noman Ali needs support from the other bowlers if they are to win this test match. 

Pakistan are not so in a good position in order to win this test match because tomorrow will be the deciding fourth day of the match and the pitch would not be the fifth day pitch which becomes extremely difficult for batting.

In the end what I would like to say is that if Noman Ali gets support from other spin bowlers like Sajid Khan and Salman Agha then they should win otherwise South Africa will win the first test.

Pakistan vs South Africa day 2 of First test 2025

 

Pakistan are in a commanding position in the first test match against South Africa and sooner or later they will surely take the lead against South Africa in this test match. Noman Ali backed by Sajid Khan and Salman Agha look to be in good wicket taking form and the pitch is suiting and helping their type of bowling. South Africa replying to Pakistan's total of 378 runs in Day2 of the test match are 216 for 6 with their tailenders exposed.

South Africa are also without their premier batsmen Temba Bavuma in this test match and without Keshav Maharaj their only quality spinner in this test match. With the absence of these quality players and match winners Pakistan definitely have an edge over South Africa in this test match.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan definitely have the ascendancy in this test match as they batted first on this pitch and batting last will be extremely difficult on this pitch as the wicket further deteriorates. 

Pakistan vs South Africa first test at Lahore 2025

 

Pakistan definitely has a chance not only in the test series but in all three series against South Africa at home that is Tests, Twenty20 triangular also involving Afghanistan and later on the ODI series.

In the first test Pakistani curators should prepare a sharp turning pitches as spin bowling is our biggest strength. we have world class spinners in Noman Ali and Sajid Khan. They definitely have the ability to take twenty wickets required to take in order to win a test match. On the otherhand the only quality spinner that South Africa has is Keshav Maharaj. South Africa mainly rely on their pace bowlers to win in test cricket which will be ineffective on Pakistani pitches.

In the end what i would like to say is that with our batting strengthened with the return of Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan Pakistan should win the first test at Lahore starting on October 12.

Pakistan vs India Asia cup 2025 Final

 

Pakistan although lost to India in the final of the Asia Cup didnt disappoint me throughout the tournament. Pakistan only lost to India throughout the tournament and that too thrice but they were good enough to beat strong teams like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Our batting once again let us down after being in a commanding position when they were 114 for three at one stage. From then onwards they collapsed to 146 runs all out. All the Pakistani batsmen got out slogging and playing irresponsible shots as the pressure was put on them by the Indian spinners. India Chasing 147 runs all Pakistani bowlers bowled well except Haris Rauf. In fact Haris Rauf 's bowling in the Final is what cost us the Final.  

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan performed reasonably well throughout the tournament ending up as being runners up. 

Pakistan vs Bangladesh Super 4 Asia Cup 2025

 

Pakistan definitely has a chance of reaching the final of Asia Cup if they beat Bangladesh today. Historically Pakistan have always dominated Bangladesh and always start as favourites to beat Bangladesh. But in Cricket you never know as Pakistan is an unpredictable team.

Our batting did well against India but our bowlers let us down in that match so even our bowling is not reliable. A lot will depend on the toss as batting second is an advantage in Dubai particularly because of the dew factor. 

Pakistani batsmen have had a good game in only one match so far and that too against India in the Super 4 match by scoring 171 runs on board. Saim Ayub's form is a matter of big concern as his wicket puts a lot of pressure on the Pakistani team and the rest of the Pakistani batsmen. 

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan should overcome Bangladesh to reach the final against India.

Pakistan reach Super 4 of Asia Cup 2025

 

Pakistan reached Super 4 by defeating UAE by 41 runs. Our batting again failed this time but it was our bowling which came to our rescue once again. Our bowling is great and there is nothing wrong with our bowling but our batting is faltering time and again infact in all three matches of Asia Cup, If Pakistan are to reach the final of the tournament and do well in Super 4 then our batting needs to improve drastically

Saim Ayub hasnt scored a single run throughout the tournament so far and Pakistan often get in early trouble in their innings because of Saim ayub's form. Fakhar Zaman is the only consistent performer in batting for the Pakistani team while the rest of the batting is totally failing. I hope our batters come into form when we face India and Sri Lanka. Against Bangladesh our bowling may come in for the rescue but against India and Sri lanka our batting needs to click too.

In the end what I would like to say is that we are clearly missing Babar azam the most in our batting and to a lesser extent Muhammad Rizwan as well. 

Pakistan vs India Asia Cup 2025 review

 

Pakistan were thrashed by India by 7 wickets in their Asia Cup match of group stage. Pakistan's batting wilted under pressure facing and playing 63 dot balls in their innings of 127 runs. Pakistani batsmen were found to be clueless against the spin of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel and against the pace of Jasprit Bumrah. If a tailender like Shaheen Afridi can score  34 runs of 16 balls then why cant the rest of the batsmen play in a similar fashion.

The Indians didnt shake hands with Pakistani players at the end of the match which left a bad taste in the mouth. The Indians showing clear lack of sportsman spirit and etiquettes. They in the end dedicated this win to their armed forces which shows that the Indians incurred heavy losses during the conflict.

In the end what I would like to say is that if Pakistani team cannot beat the top sides in the world then beating only minnows is absolutely useless by them.

Pakistan vs India Asia Cup 2025

 

Pakistan will find it extremely tough against India in their group match of the Asia Cup. Not only Pakistan's batting will be tested but also their so called champion bowlers will be tested as well. Pakistan's batting needs a lot to be desired as they scored a modest 160 for 7 against an associate team Oman.

Only Sahibzada Farhan, Muhammad Haris and Fakhar Zaman played a substantial innings against Oman while the rest disappointed. They should have scored atleast 200 runs against minnows Oman instead they ended with only 160 runs on board on a batting pitch.  These signs are not good in batting playing against India as india usually scores huge totals.

In the end what I would like to say is that it will take a major miracle if Pakistan are to beat this Indian team in Asia Cup 2025.

Pakistan wins the Tri nation series UAE 2025

Pakistan against all expectations and predictions won the twenty20 International UAE tri nation series 2025 by defeating Afghanistan in the final by a convincing margin of 75 runs. No one expected this final to be such a one sided affair and in fact Afghanistan looked favourites to win the title after they restricted Pakistan to 141 for 8 in their innings. No one expected Afghanistan to not even give a fight and collapse to 66 runs all out. 

Mohammad Nawaz bowled the spell of his life to take 5 wickets and in this way played a key role in dismissing Afghanistan to 66 all out. He not only shone with the ball but also with the bat scoring 25 runs which helped Pakistan to a total of 141. 

Pakistan were ruthless with the ball and didnt allow the Afghan batsmen to comeback in the game. Not only Muhammad Nawaz but also Abrar Ahmed and Sufiyan Muqeem chipped in with two wickets apiece.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan is looking good to finish at least as runners up in the Asia Cup to follow.  

Pakistan vs Afghanistan final tri nation series 2025 preview

 

Pakistan and Afghanistan are two evenly matched sides with equal abilities. Here the toss will play an important role in determining the eventual winner of the final as the  team that bats first has won every match in this tournament so far. 

Afghanistan seem to be having a little edge over Pakistan mentally, strategically and ability wise too. Their strategy of starting slow with wickets in hand seems to pay a lot of dividends as they gradually get to a match winning total.  Whereas Pakistan's strategy of all out attack right from the beginning of their innings in batting is too risky and unfruitful.

In Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran they have reliable openers who almost always give them a flying start. In Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Noor Ahmad they have unplayable spinners. so in this way Pakistan will be facing a formidable team like Afghanistan in the final.

In the end what i would like to say is that it will take a minor miracle and something extraordinary from Pakistan to win this final against Afghanistan.  

Pakistan vs Afghanistan match 4 of trination series 2025

 

Pakistan were outclassed by Afghanistan by 18 runs in the fourth match of the UAE tri nation series 2025. Pakistan team although is as talented as Afghanistan do not follow the right strategy of maintaining high strike rates giving strike rate more importance than winning the match itself.. In this match in particular in order to score at a high run rate Pakistani batsmen got themselves out instead of keeping in wickets in hand just like the Afghans did in their innings of building partnership.

Afghanistan were slow early in their innings but when they started a partnership they had momentum in their hands and from then on they grew in confidence increasing the run rate. Their innings in batting was much more sensible than that of Pakistan. Pakistan need Babar Azam in their team who is the only sensible batsman in Pakistani cricket.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan will find it tough to beat Afghanistan in the Final of this tournament.

Pakistan vs Afghanistan match 1 of tri nation series 2025

 

Well Pakistan is an unpredictable team and they cant be in a trough for too long. They brushed aside recent form to defeat Afghanistan by 39 runs in the first match of the trination series 2025. Although Rashid Khan, mohammad Nabi and mujeeb ur Rahman were unplayable at times Pakistani batsmen targeted the Afghan pacemen namely Farooqi, Fareed and Omarzai. This strategy worked as Pakistan piled up a decent total of 182 runs against them.

Afghanistan batting as compared to their bowling is weak with only Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rashid Khan with ability to strike the ball hard rest of the batting is pretty ordinary in terms of strike rate. So if Pakistan can overcome Afghanistan's bowling they are always favourites to win. Pakistani selectors are right to drop Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan as both bat too slowly in Twenty20 cricket.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan and Afghanistan should play the final of this tournament. 

Pakistan, Afghanistan, UAE tri nations series

 

Well the overwhelming favourites for the trination series twenty20 tournament is not Pakistan but Afghanistan. Afghanistan is a dangerous side given that they were one of the semi finalists in last year's twenty20 world cup in 2024 and they are in form as compared to Pakistan and UAE. Afghanistan have a dangerous bowling line up with spinners like Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi. In fast bowling they have Fazal ul Haq Farooqi and in batting they have swashbuckling opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Pakistan on the otherhand couldnt defeat Bangladesh in their home conditions losing to Bangladesh 2-1 a side that just recently lost to UAE 2-1. Also Sharjah pitches suit Afghanistan more than they suit Pakistan. Pakistan's batting is unreliable and their bowlers do have an off day from time to time. I hope they dont miss Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in their batting.

In the end what I would like to say is that not only Afghanistan but even UAE will prove to be tough opponents for Pakistan.

Shoaib Malik - A match winning all rounder

 

If there was any match winner in Pakistan cricket except from Inzamam ul Haq it has to be Shoaib Malik. Shoaib Malik was an expert in finishing matches for Pakistan resulting in Pakistan's victories. He would often come in tough situations and win the match with the bat for Pakistan.

In 2008 Shoaib Malik was captain of Pakistan cricket team which won the Kitply cup in Bangladesh defeating India in the final. He also led Pakistan to runners up position in the 2007 inaugural Twenty20 world Cup losing to India in the final.   As a player he played an important role in Pakistan's victories in 2009 Twenty20 World Cup and ICC champions trophy in 2017.

In 2021 World Cup of Twenty20 he last played a significant role in Pakistan cricket by helping Pakistan to reach the semi finals of that World Cup. He was never selected to play for Pakistan again after that Twenty20 World cup. His career lasted more than twenty years. 

In the end what i would like to say is that given the potential that Shoaib malik had he underachieved somewhat not playing upto his true potential.

Pakistan vs West indies 3rd ODI 2025

 

Pakistan have been crushed by West indies by 202 runs in the third ODI 2025. Have to admit ability wise and planning wise West indies were the better side. On a tricky pitch they consolidated keeping wickets in hand and once the bowling was tired they smashed Pakistan to all parts of the ground to pile up a huge total of 294 runs.

This total was always beyond Pakistan given the bowling friendly pitch which turned square right from the beginning and Jayden Seales bowling. I think the main difference between the two sides was Jayden Seales bowling and Shai Hope's batting. Both Muhammad Rizwan and Babar Azam are out of form that's why we lost the ODI series 2-1 to West Indies. Also in bowling we should have played Shaheen Afridi and Sufyan Muqeem in all the three ODI's .

In the end what I would like to say is that West Indies although ranked 10th were the better ODI side as compared to Pakistan as West Indies team contained more match winners than the Pakistan cricket team.

Pakistan vs West indies 2nd ODI 2025

 

Pakistan have been defeated by 5 wickets in the second ODI against West indies. Both West Indies although ranked 10th and Pakistan ranked 4th are equally talented and equally matched teams. Pakistan were unlucky they lost the toss as the trend in this ODI series shows that who so ever wins the toss wins the match by batting second.

Pakistan took a  Conservative approach to batting and played a lot of dot balls just like teams in the 1980's used to do. Modern day cricket requires a more proactive approach and an attacking approach to batting playing 360 degree shots all over the ground. Pakistan doesnt play with the modern day approach to batting.

Also never disturb a winning combination and I think Pakistan should have stuck with the same team as they played in the first ODI.

In the end what I would like to say is that if Pakistan finds it hard to compete against a low ranked team like West indies then I am sorry to say Pakistan cannot compete against the top ranked teams like Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, England and India.             

Pakistan vs West Indies 3rd Twenty20 2025

 

Pakistan won the Third Twenty20 by 13 runs to win the series 2-1 against West Indies. This result was always in doubt as Pakistan were beaten in Bangladesh and West Indies is a much stronger team than Bangladesh also West Indies are the two time Twenty20 World Champions winning the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016 respectively.

THis time Pakistan while batting made sure that they kept wickets in hand before going all out to hit it out in the death overs. This strategy worked as Pakistan put up a decent total of 189 runs on board. Sufiyan Muqeem and Haris Rauf were able to contain the West Indian batsmen and were the stars with the ball. I still think Hasan Ali is well past his prime and Shaheen Afridi should play regularly for Pakistan.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan slowly but surely are making a comeback in Twenty20 Internationals.

Pakistan vs West indies 2nd twenty20 2025

 

Pakistan lost a match they should have won by 2 wickets against West Indies in the second twenty20 match. Pakistan should have won when West Indies needed a minor miracle that is three runs off the last ball to win but Jason Holder had other ideas as he hit a four. Clearly the main difference between the two teams in the first two Twenty20 internationals has been Jason Holder's all round ability with both bat and ball. Jason Holder is the only match winner in the West Indian side. 

We are clearly missing Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in our batting in Twenty20 cricket and the selectors should select both sooner rather than later. Also Hasan Ali's bowling was the reason why we lost this match. Haris Rauf is always a better choice than Hasan Ali.

In the end what I would like to say is that if we cannot beat weak teams like West Indies and Bangladesh then how can you expect Pakistan to compete against top cricket playing nations.

World Championship of Legends

 

In the world championship of legends Pakistan is doing pretty well infact winning three consecutive matches now. In the previous edition of WCL in 2024 Pakistan finished runners up and in this edition of the tournament they are in the verge of reaching the semi finals.

Pakistan have defeated England, South Africa and West Indies so far in the WCL 2025. The England match was much closer as Pakistan could put only 160 for 9 on board but their bowlers contained and restricted England Champions to 155 for 3 hence  Pakistan won by 5 runs. On the otherhand Pakistan came with convincing victories against South Africa and West Indies. This Pakistan team is an excellent all round team.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan Champions would be very hard to beat throughout the remainder of the tournament.   

Pakistan vs Bangladesh 1st Twenty20 2025

 

Pakistan have been thrashed by 7 wickets in the first Twenty20 2025 by Bangladesh in Bangladesh home series. Pakistan are clearly missing the services of Babar Azam in their batting and Shaheen Afridi in their bowling.I think Pakistan cricket team needs both Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi in their team if they are to be formidable in this format of the game.  Pakistan selected a novice bowling line up for this series and if their batting fails like in this match they are sure to lose.

How can a bowling line up comprising of bowling all rounders like Faheem Ashraf and Abbas Afridi and novice bowlers like Salman Mirza contain the Bangladeshi batsmen. Amongst the batsmen in world cricket no one is world class in the Pakistani batting line up except for Babar Azam and Pakistan should select Babar Azam regardless of his form in all formats of this game that also includes Twenty20 format.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan were beaten in the first twenty20 because of the pitch in Mirpur.

can Pakistan compete against top cricket playing nations

 

On paper Pakistan cricket team definitely has ability and potential to compete against the top cricketing nations but their performance suggests that they cannot compete against major test playing nations. Our recent performance with the exception of Champions trophy tournament in 2025 in ODI cricket was good.. All that nose dived when we were whitewashed against New Zealand on their recent tour of New zealand 3-0.

Iin test cricket we havent defeated top cricketing nations like Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in recent times. Our winning graph goes down whenever we play these teams. Part of the reason for such performance in test cricket against these teams are our technique and temperament. In twenty20 cricket also we havent defeated the major teams  in recent times.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan would have to change their style of cricket in accordance with modern day cricket in order to compete against the top sides in the world. 

Pakistan tour of Bangladesh 2025

 

Pakistan will be touring Bangladesh for a series of three Twenty20 internationals starting from 20 th July. Pakistan are favourites this time but not overwhelming favourites as Bangladesh are the hosts this time and they have home advantage. Also injuries to Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf is a big blow to Pakistan's chances.

Pakistan have a formidable opening pair infact they have a superb three upper order batsmen in Saim ayub, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Haris. Each of these players play with great strike rates which is a prequisite in Twenty20 cricket. In bowling they have Abrar Ahmed, Abbas Afridi and Faheem Ashraf forming a decent bowling attack that can contain Bangladeshi batsmen. 

In the end what I would like to say is that Bangladeshi cricket team is fully capable of causing an upset or two in this twenty20 series.

Pakistan vs Bangladesh 3rd Twenty20 International 2025

Pakistan achieved what they wanted to achieve that is 3-0 whitewash of Bangladesh in the twenty20 international series in Lahore. The 3rd twenty20 international was a lot closer as compared to the first two twenty20 internationals with Bangladesh piling up a huge total of 196 runs in their allotted twenty overs.

Although Sahibzada Farhan went early , Muhammad Haris and Saim Ayub kept up the momentum and kept themselves abreast the run rate of 10 runs an over to easily chase Bangladesh's total of 196 runs with plenty of overs to spare and by 7 wickets.

Throughout the series Muhammad Haris showed a lot of potential and he has easily taken Muhammad Rizwan's place in the twenty20 team. Muhammad Haris bats with a better strike rate than Muhammad Rizwan and is a bit of a dasher. In twenty20 cricket we need a batsmen like Muhammad  Haris who can bat with better strike rates.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan shouldnt get complacent after just one series win in twenty20  against Bangladesh and they need to be consistent. 

Pakistan 's performance in World Test Championship (2023-2025)

 

Pakistan' s  performance in 2023-2025 World Test Championship was pathetic to say the least. Out of 10 test matches played in this test championship cycle Pakistan won just 4 and lost 6 test matches giving them a negative win/loss ratio and finishing last at the bottom of the test championship table. They finished even below West Indies which is a team which ranks below them in ICC test rankings that indicates their bad performance. 

After winning the series against England at home 2-1 a lot was expected of Pakistan cricket team that they would whitewash West Indies 2-0 in the test series at home in Multan. Instead West Indies drew the test series 1-1 with them after preparing a sharp turner of a pitch which back fired as Pakistan's own batsmen couldn't cope with the spin of Warrican.

In the end I would like to congratulate South African cricket team as they won the ICC World test championship title 2023-2025 defeating Australia in the final to win only their second ICC title the first being ICC knockout tournament in 1998 under Hansie Cronje's captaincy. 

Pakistan is a proud cricketing nation

 

Pakistan has achieved so much in cricket in its national history that i rate cricket is now Pakistan's national sport instead of hockey. We are a cricket mad nation and the craze we show in this sport is hardly witnessed in any other sport. People of all segments of society may it be rich and poor and of all age groups are absolutely crazy about this sport.

Pakistan has also been very successful nation with positive winning percentage in all three formats of the game that is test, odi, twenty20. In test matches Pakistan have won 150 matches and lost 146 matches. In ODI's Pakistan have won 519 matches and lost 430 matches. In Twenty20 International's Pakistan have won 144 matches and lost 98 matches. These statistics are updated to upto 24th December 2024.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan has always been talented in cricket throughout his history. 

Pakistan vs Bangladesh - First two twenty20 internationals 2025

 

Pakistan outclassed Bangladesh by 37 runs in the first Twenty20 and they defeated Bangladesh by 57 runs in the second twenty20 international. Pakistan is proving to be much superior than  Bangladesh and Bangladesh is proving to be no match to the Pakistan cricket team. Talent wise too Bangladesh is much inferior to Pakistan cricket team.

Pakistani batsmen are playing their shots right from the first ball which is refreshing change in the Pakistan cricket team brought in by new coach Mike Hesson's tactics. Mike Hesson has brought positive changes in the Pakistan cricket team like aggressive batting and aggressive bowling. We lacked aggression in our cricket especially in our batting when Aaqib Javed was our coach.

In the end what i would like to say is that Mike Hesson's tenure as Pakistan's coach has begun well.

Quetta favourites to win PSL

 

After Karachi got knocked out of the tournament my favourite team is now Quetta Gladiators. Quetta is a superb all round team with hardly any weak player or any weakness. Since Vivian Richards is there as their mentor who is a legend and all time great. I have full hopes that Quetta can pull of a win in the Final. 

Their opponents are likely to be either Lahore Qalandars or Islamabad united in the final. Both Lahore Qalandars  and Islamabad United are tough opponents with both teams having equally set of champion cricketers. But I prefer Lahore Qalandar's as Quetta's opponents as Islamabad United are too ruthless as a team. 

Quetta Gladiators have many match winners like Finn Allen, Hassan Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Abrar Ahmed and Muhammad Amir in their team and they will be very tough to beat in the Final.

In the end what I would like to say is that on paper Quetta Gladiators are looking a very strong team indeed.

Bangladesh tour of Pakistan 2025

 

Pakistan are the overwhelming favourites to beat Bangladesh in this twenty20 international tour of Pakistan by Bangladesh. I am saying this because Bangladesh's recent twenty20 record of late isnt good. Bangladesh have lost to associate teams like USA and UAE by identical margins of 2-1 and are currently not in form. Pakistan on the otherhand are playing at full strength and hopefully though should be able to whitewash Bangladesh in this twenty20 series 3-0 although Pakistan are not in good form of late themselves. 

With the return of Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub Pakistan will be strengthened in the top order. Hassan Nawaz has also shown a lot of promise. While the return of Hassan Ali is an encouraging sign too. Therefore on paper Pakistan looks much better than Bangladesh and they should be able to beat Bangladesh easily. Although with the recent results going by Bangladesh can cause an upset or two.

In the end what i would like to say is that Pakistan is looking like a formidable side in front of Bangladesh. 

Karachi kings make it to the playoffs

 

Karachi Kings make it to the playoffs after defeating Peshawar Zalmi. This was the first time since 2021 that Karachi Kings have made it to the playoffs. Their success this season very much owes to David Warner who has been an inspirational leader and who has led Karachi Kings from the front. James Vince, Irfan Khan Niazi and Khushdil Shah have been instrumental to Karachi Kings success.

Hassan Ali has shown great fight with the ball. Mir Hamza, Abbas Afridi and Khushdil Shah have been containing the opposition out to low totals. This shows Karachi has got strength with both bat and ball in their line up and will be hard to beat in the playoffs. They are currently second in this year's PSL table and need to beat Islamabad United to retain their spot in the final standings.

In the end what I would like to say is that Karachi Kings have the team to give a tough fight to any opposition they face in the playoffs.

Pakistan vs Australia - A head to head comparison

 

Australia generally speaking have always started as favourites whenever they faced Pakistan particularly in Australian conditions and especially in test matches. Such is the dominance of Australia over Pakistan in test match cricket that Pakistan has never won a test series on Australian soil. The last time Pakistan beat Australia in Australia was the Sydney test in 1995 under Wasim Akram's captaincy. In Pakistan's home tests versus Australia the last time they won a test series against Australia was 1-0 under Salim Malik's captaincy in 1994. That series too was controversial as Mark Waugh, Shane Warne and Tim May claimed that Salim Malik offered them bribes to under perform.

In ODI's the situation is slightly better with Pakistan winning the ODI series 2-1 as recently as last year in 2024 on Australian soil against Australia. In 2022 Pakistan have also won the bilateral ODI series in 2022 at home against Australia 2-1. 

In twenty20 internationals the gap between Australian and Pakistani teams becomes even narrower. With Pakistan winning equal number of matches against Australia in twenty20 internationals.

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan's performance against Australia in test matches need to improve as last time Pakistan beat Australia in a test series was 2018.

Comparison between Rashid Latif and Moin Khan

 

Both Rashid Latif and Moin Khan were great wicket keepers of my generation probably the best wicketkeepers ever to play the game for Pakistan. But i rate Moin khan as better wicket keeper especially when it comes to batting. 

Moin Khan rescued Pakistan from a number of tight situations and he also won us the 1992 Semi final against New Zealand by smashing that vital six when more than a run a ball was needed. Whereas we had disastrous World Cup compaigns in 1996 and 2003 World Cups with Rashid Latif as wicket keeper. Moin Khan also played a number of vital innings for Pakistan in 1999 World Cup scoring runs quickly which was required from him besides Wicket keeping neatly behind the stumps. In Asian test championship of 1999 in Kolkata he played a vital innings for Pakistan rescuing Pakistan from a precarious 26 for 6 position. 

Rashid Latif although a better wicket keeper for Pakistan couldnt match Moin khan's batting feats. Under Rashid Latif's wicket keeping Pakistan won the 2002 ODI series in Australia. He also kept wickets for Pakistan in successful England tours of 1992 and 1996. 

In the end what i would like to say is that since Moin Khan was a better match winner than Rashid Latif hence he was better than Rashid Latif.

Comparison between Pakistan's current team and Pakistani teams of the past

 

Pakistan teams of the 1990's and early 2000's were much more talented ability wise. In batting there was Saeed Anwar as an opener and Aamir Sohail. In bowling they had the finest bowlers with outstanding pace and movement in the form of World Class bowlers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar. In the middle order we had world class talent with batsmen such as Inzamam ul Haq, Javed Miandad, Salim Malik and Ijaz Ahmed. In spin department we had World Class spinners like Saqlain Mushtaq and Mushtaq Ahmed. In wicket keepers we had some of the best wicket keepers like Rashid Latif and Moin Khan.

Whereas in the current team there is hardly any World Class player except for Babar Azam who is currently not in form. Saim Ayub is the only promising player in the current team but he too got injured and couldnt play the just recently concluded Champions Trophy. In bowling we have no reliable bowlers and all of them are being hit to all parts of the ground. 

In the end what I would like to say is that Pakistan cricket team's standard is declining and we can only live in Pakistan's past glory. 

Muhammad Amir should come out of retirement

 

Pakistan badly needs a bowler like Muhammad Amir in their bowling line up alongwith the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah.  PCB should better convince Muhammad Amir to play for Pakistan again. According to Shoaib Akhtar and other experts Muhammad Amir is the most intelligent bowler Pakistan has ever produced. Muhammad Amir still has plenty to offer the Pakistan team and is currently the best Pakistani fast bowler in recent times.

Brett Lee called Muhammad Amir as being thousand times better than Shaheen Afridi. Muhammad Amir can still swing the ball at high speeds something he used to do when he was young. PCB should keep politics out of sports and immediately select Muhammad Amir in the team. Muhammad Amir is the only bowler who knows how to bowl at the death overs an area Pakistan seems to be lacking in recent times especially in ODI's.

In the end what i would like to say is that Pakistan's performance will only be successful if Muhammad Amir comes out of retirement as he is a world class bowler.
